Doors Open: Sunday 1-4pm

The beautiful spacious Church was constructed in 1890 during the pastorate of Rev. William Ryan at a cost of 7000 dollars.

During a session of Guysborough and Cape Breton district held in Canso on June 12th, 1890 the new church was officially dedicated. Rev. Joseph S. Coffin, president of the Nova Scotia conference preached the dedicatory sermon. In June 1911 Rev. Coffin became the minister of the Canso Methodist Church.

On August 12th, 1940 the congregation of St. Paul's Church celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the building of their Church.

In 1925, St. Paul's United Church joined with the United Church of Canada. We celebrate worship the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month at 9am. Before our worship we share in a social time with tea, coffee and sweet. All are welcome to join us for worship and our many activities we have throughout the year.

This pretty church overlooking Chedabucto Bay is distinguished by its graceful eight-sided steeple atop a two-storey porch. Its lancet windows are reflected in the arched shape of the double doorway leading into the porch.

Founded in 1819, St. Ann's parish, Guysborough, Nova Scotia, holds importance for all local families with early roots. Parish records have been translated from scans of original records. Often the handwriting is challenging to decipher. Spelling varies widely - sometimes a name is spelled differently even within the same record. We've tried to show what the original record contains - including spelling errors & variations.

WESLEY UNITED

Doors Open: Saturday 1-4pm

Wesley United traces its origins in Guysborough back to 1808 when the first Methodist minister visited the area and conducted a mission here for six weeks. Other missionaries followed, travelling up and down the bay shore from Guysborough to Canso. In time, the Methodists in Guysborough determined they needed a church building of their own. A church was built and the opening services were held on November 1, 1829. The congregation outgrew the building within 30 years.

A new building was erected opposite the old church (no longer there) at the current location of the corner of Church and Queen Streets. This church was dedicated on August 28, 1858. It is the oldest serving church building in Guysborough.

In 1925, Wesley United Church joined with the United Church of Canada. We worship every second Sunday in Wesley building with Boylston congregation joining us and we join them on the other Sundays. All are welcome to join us for worship and our many activities we have throughout the year.

Doors Open: Sunday 1-4pm

Built in 1786, the Christ Church was the first church of Guysborough. After the Rev. Peter de la Roche visited Guysborough, where he performed a wedding and numerous baptisms, the community petitioned for Rev. de la Roche to be permanently moved to Guysborough as the first Rector of the Parish. Rev. de la Roche had over 325 families in his care and was extremely dedicated to the church and community. The names of those buried in the Christ Church cemetery are displayed on plaques beside the church.
